- JOHN'S SHORTS AND DAVE'S THEMES
- by John Andrew Kaputa
- and
- Dave Marquis
-
-
- [DAVE'S NOTE:] John sent these two
- short and small cello solo pieces,
- presumably to be our Presenter music.
- But here we are at the end of side 4
- with just a dab of space -- too much
- to ignore and too small for what we
- had in mind. So I found two pictures
- we had laying around to give some nice
- graphics to the songs. The first is a
- street scene from Scotland, from a
- photo by Andrew Roberts. The second is
- a cathedral picture I found on the
- Web.
-
- Now here is John to tell you about the
- music:
-
-
- CELLOPRELUDE.MUS = The Cello Prelude
- from J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 1 in
- G Major (BWV1007) - SID entered June
- 2005 - Playing Time: 3 min, 25 sec -
- 8 blks
-
- BOURREES.MUS = The Bourries I & II
- from J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 3 in
- C Major (BWV1009) - SID entered
- August 2006 - Playing Time: 2 min, 44
- sec - 7 blks
-
- The Bourries sound a tad bit fast,
- but the 18th century dance called the
- Bourrie was played at 160 beats per
- minute according to Quantz's Treatise
- of 1752. So I was informed by a
- member of the Music Department at our
- local Community College in 1997, in
- answer to my query about the tempos
- to use in J.S. Bach's Four Orchestral
- Suites.
-
- I can't believe I have been have been
- making this music since February 1996
- when I first tried my hand at
- classical music for the Commodore 64
- with Beethoven's Third Symphony (The
- Eroica), which was included on John's
- Warhorses Published by Loadstar in
- 1997. Of course it is in Six Voice
- Stereo.

- [DAVE CONTINUES:] Then, with a little
- pushing and shoving, we found 144 free
- blocks on side 4. I couldn't find any
- program that really excited me --
- until I found a number of Themes
- transcribed by Dave Marquis. It was
- part of a contest back on issue 175,
- but I thought two of these would
- work great here.
-
- For images, I went (as usual) to
- Google Images, and soon found
- excellent graphics for each Theme:
-
- THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES -- from a
- little piece of celluoid fluff called
- The Big Broadcast of 1934, with Bob
- Hope. Hope appropriated the theme, and
- now it brings up one image in our
- minds.
-
- SPEAK SOFTLY LOVE -- "I will make an
- offer he cannot refuse." Brando as the
- gravelly voiced Family man. Of course.
